EM Test CWS 500N2.2 BCI Test System Overview

The EMC Shop stocks calibrated, turnkey systems like the EM Test CWS500N2.2 for MIL-STD 461 CS114, DO 160 Section 20, IEC 61000-4-6 and other test standards requiring the bulk current injection probe method.

Bulk current injection (BCI) testing

Bulk Current Injection (BCI) is a test procedure to proof the immunity to electrical disturbances by narrowband electromagnetic energy. The test signal is injected by means of a current injection probe physically being a current transformer laid around the wiring harness. Immunity tests are performed varying the level and the frequency of the injected test signal. The BCI test methode is widely known in the automotive industry as well as in the military/aircraft industry to test single components of a complex system.

The CWS 500N2.2 is designed to be used for tests as per MIL STD 461 D/E/F/G CS 114, ISO 11452-4 and IEC/EN 61000-4-6 with CDNs and EM clamps and related standards.

BCI testing out of one single box - Easy, fast and reliable

The CWS 500N2.2 is the first compact solution world-wide for testing rf conducted immunity to narrowband radiated electromagnetic energy. Apart from the injection probe and the monitoring probe everything is in the box; controller, signal generator, amplifier, directional coupler and rf power measurement of up to three signals in parallel. A built-in rf switch allows to connect and use any external amplifier to extend the system's capabilities.

Despite of being that compact the CWS 500N2.2 is a very flexible solution and can be used in the laboratory as well as everywhere in the field. Setting up a test is done very quickly with a minimum effort for cabling of the test equipment. There are only two leads; the rf power lead to the input of the injection probe and the return lead from the monitoring clamp. The user doesn't need to be an expert to run reliable and reproducible tests.

A powerful software tool including extensive reporting features and instrument driving capabilites masters the test procedures. All operation is done by means of icd.control software.

Front panel menu and function keys enable the user to program his test routines quickly and accurately. The cursor allows fast control of all test parameters of the programmed routine, thus test procedures are simplified and confidence is generated that every step is carried out correctly.

BCI tests are performed by means of the powerful and easy-to use icd.control remote control and documentation software. For this test application icd.control offers test procedures specifically written to the standards. Offering a library of standards tests are carried out as easy as ever possible.

But icd.control would not be an extraordinary tool without its outstanding and unique capability to implement up to four different measuring devices. These measuring instruments can be used for any kind of data acquisition controlling the entire test procedure. DUT monitoring is easier then ever before.

Even most complexe test routine can easily be programmed based on vector-defined test points.
icd.control is prepared to also cover test applications other than just BCI using e.g. Stripline, TEM Cells, CDNs and EM clamps.

Other Models:

Continuous wave simulation from DC to 1GHz

Continuous wave simulation over 9 decades! The CWS 500N family not only covers the frequency range mostly required for industrial test applications based on IEC 61000-4-6 but EM TEST also offers dedicated solutions for the low frequency range as well as for BCI (Bulk Current Injection) applications in the automotive, aerospace and military area.
The CWS 500N4 covers the requirements as per IEC 61000-4-16 for low frequency test applications required for testing electrical and electronic equipment with the application of common mode disturbances to power supply, control, signal and communication ports.
