ISO 7637-4 OVERVIEW

ISO 7637-4 specifies test methods and procedures to ensure the compatibility to conducted electrical transients along shielded high voltage supply lines of equipment installed on passenger cars and commercial vehicles fitted with electrical systems with voltages higher than 60 V d.c. and lower than 1 500 V d.c. and a power supply isolated from the vehicle body. It describes bench tests for both, injection and measurement of transients. It is applicable to all types of electrical independent driven, road vehicles (e.g. battery electrical vehicle (BEV) or hybrid electrical vehicle (HEV), plugin hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)).

ISO 7637-4 TEST PLAN

ISO 7637-4 outlines various test methods and severity levels to simulate transient disturbances commonly encountered in electric vehicles. The standard covers disturbances such as fast transients, slow transients, and ripple voltages. Here are some key testing procedures involved in ISO 7637-4 electric vehicle EMC testing:

  1. Test Setup: The component or system under evaluation is connected to a specialized test setup, which replicates the electrical environment of an electric vehicle.
  2. Test Parameters: The standard specifies the test parameters, including voltage levels, rise and fall times, durations, and frequency characteristics for each type of transient disturbance.
  3. Test Execution: The specified disturbances are applied to the component or system under controlled conditions. The behavior and performance of the tested equipment are monitored and analyzed during the tests.
  4. Compliance Assessment: The test results are compared against the requirements specified in ISO 7637-4 to determine compliance. Any deviations or failures are documented and addressed accordingly.

High Voltage Supply Lines

There are two types of disturbances:
— Pulsed sinusoidal disturbances (Waveform A);
— Low frequency sinusoidal disturbances (Waveform B).
